"From the moment we arrived, the whole experience was amazing. Janette was incredibly patient, calm and experienced with our baby, which made us feel completely at ease throughout our newborn shoot. The studio was beautiful and thoughtfully set up, and it was obvious how much care goes into every detail.
Janette was so creative with the photos and really guided us through choosing what would work best, making the process easy rather than overwhelming. My mum came with us and she made her feel welcome too.
We absolutely love the final photos and were surprised by how quickly they were ready. The quality and experience exceeded expectations. I would highly recommend to anyone considering newborn photography and will definitely return in the future. Thank you for capturing such a special time for our family." - Clare from Sydney Australia, on Google

Q&A
The most frequently asked questions, and the answers to them
DO I NEED TO BOOK MY NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION BEFORE MY BABY IS BORN?
Yes, we highly recommend booking your newborn photography session while you're still pregnant, ideally during your second or third trimester. As a professional Sydney North Shore Newborn Photography Studio, we only accept a limited number of newborns each month (maximum 8), to ensure every family receives a relaxed, personalised experience. We usually pencil in a date about 7-10 days after your due date. Once your baby arrives, we'll check if your planned date is within the ideal 8–14 day window, and if not then we find a date that suits you, your baby and your family best.

WHAT IS THE BEST AGE FOR NEWBORN PHOTOS?
The ideal time for newborn photography is when your baby is between 8 and 14 days old. This short window allows us to capture those beautifully timeless newborn portraits while your little one is still incredibly tiny, sleepy, and naturally curled up—just as they were in the womb.
These first days pass by so quickly, and your baby will never be this small or new again. Their delicate features, tiny fingers and toes, soft eyelashes, flaky newborn skin, and adorable curled-up poses change in what feels like the blink of an eye. A professional newborn photography session preserves these precious details for your family to treasure forever.
During the first two weeks, most babies still spend much of their day sleeping deeply, making it easier to create the peaceful, relaxed images that many parents love. This is also the age when many newborns are naturally more comfortable in some of the classic newborn poses.
However, every baby is wonderfully unique. At our Sydney newborn photography studio, your baby's comfort and safety are always our highest priorities. We never expect every newborn to enjoy every pose, and we never force a baby into a position they don't naturally settle into. We carefully follow your baby's cues throughout the session, allowing plenty of time for cuddles, feeding, settling, and soothing whenever needed.
We also choose not to photograph certain poses or setups that we don't believe are appropriate or safe. Our approach is gentle, baby-led, and focused on creating beautiful portraits without compromising your little one's wellbeing. With nearly 20 years of experience photographing newborns, we understand how to work patiently and safely to create timeless images while ensuring your baby remains comfortable throughout the session.
If your baby is already older than two weeks, please don't worry! Beautiful newborn portraits are still absolutely possible, although the session may be tailored to suit your baby's age, development, and individual personality.

DO YOU PROVIDE NEWBORN PROPS, OUTFITS AND ACCESSORIES?
Yes, our luxury newborn studio provides everything you need, including soft wraps in many colours, cute outfits with matching beanies and headbands, beautiful props and adorable accessories. We also offer refreshments, and a comfortable family lounge for feeding, nappy change and rest time.

CAN MY TODDLER - OR "OLDER CHILDREN" - AND MY PARTNER COME TO OUR NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION, AND CAN THE WHOLE FAMILY BE ON THE PHOTOS?
Absolutely! Family and sibling portraits are one of our favourite parts of every newborn session. We have nearly 20 years of experience gently working with toddlers and small children, helping them feel relaxed and involved without expecting them to sit perfectly still. We create a calm, fun environment with plenty of patience so everyone enjoys the experience. Your session includes beautiful images of your newborn alone, with siblings, parents, and the whole family, creating lasting memories for generations.

IS NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY SAFE?
Yes, it is. At our newborn photography studio, your baby's safety, comfort, and wellbeing are always our highest priorities. Nothing is more important than ensuring every newborn photography session is calm, gentle, and completely baby-led.
With nearly 20 years of experience photographing newborns, we understand that every baby is unique. While many parents love the classic newborn portraits they see online, it's important to remember that not every newborn is comfortable in every pose. We never force a baby into a position that doesn't feel natural or comfortable, and we always follow your baby's cues throughout the session.
Our approach is patient and flexible, allowing plenty of time for feeding, cuddling, changing, and settling whenever your baby needs it. We create a warm, peaceful environment where your little one can relax, and we work at their pace—not ours.
We also choose not to photograph certain poses or elaborate setups that we don't believe are safe. If a pose requires your baby to be unsupported or placed in an unnatural position, we simply won't do it. Our focus is on creating timeless, beautiful newborn portraits using safe posing techniques that prioritise your baby's comfort at every stage of the session.
Parents are welcome to stay with their baby throughout the entire newborn photography session, and we always explain what we're doing so you can feel relaxed and confident from beginning to end.
When you choose our Sydney North Shore newborn photography studio, you're choosing an experienced photographer who believes that beautiful images should never come at the expense of your baby's safety. Our goal is to create stunning newborn portraits while giving your family a relaxed, enjoyable experience and memories you'll treasure for a lifetime.

WHAT IF MY BABY DOESN'T SLEPP DURING THE NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION?
This is one of the most common questions we hear from expecting parents, and the answer is simple—please don't worry. At our Sydney newborn studio, we've been photographing babies for nearly 20 years, and we've learned that every newborn is different. Some babies drift off to sleep as soon as they're swaddled, while others need a little extra time, a cuddle, or a feed before they're ready to settle.
The most important thing is that we never rush your baby.
Our newborn photography sessions are intentionally relaxed, allowing plenty of time for feeding, cuddling, changing, and soothing whenever needed. We follow your baby's lead and create a calm, warm environment where they can settle naturally. More often than not, with a little patience, babies do eventually fall asleep—and that's one of the reasons our sessions are never hurried.
That said, your baby doesn't have to be asleep for every photograph. Some of the most beautiful and meaningful portraits are taken when your little one is awake. Family photographs, in particular, can be incredibly special with bright eyes open, especially when your baby is already beginning to look towards Mum, Dad, or an older sibling. Those little expressions and early connections often become some of our clients' favourite images.
If your baby decides they'd rather stay awake for most of the session, that's perfectly okay too. With nearly 20 years of experience, we know how to adapt to each baby's personality and create a beautiful gallery using a combination of awake and sleepy portraits. Every newborn is unique, and we embrace that rather than trying to force a particular outcome.
On the very rare occasion that your baby simply isn't feeling settled despite having enough time, feeds, cuddles, and comfort—which honestly almost never happens—we'll simply arrange another session date at no extra stress and cost to you. We'd much rather photograph your baby when they're happy and comfortable than push through a session that isn't right for them.

DO YOU OFFER IN-HOME NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY SESSIONS?
Yes, we do! While the majority of our clients choose to visit our beautiful Sydney North Shore newborn photography studio, we also offer in-home newborn photography sessions for families who would prefer us to come to them.
Our boutique studio in Pymble has been thoughtfully designed to make your experience as comfortable and relaxing as possible. It features a warm, peaceful environment, a carefully curated collection of luxury props, wraps, outfits and accessories, beautiful lighting, and a comfortable family room with refreshments, a breastfeeding pillow, and a nappy change area. Everything is ready for you, allowing you to simply arrive, relax, and enjoy the experience.
However, we completely understand that the first few weeks with a new baby can feel overwhelming. If you'd feel more comfortable staying at home, we're happy to bring the experience to you.
During an in-home newborn photography session, we bring a carefully selected range of wraps, blankets, outfits, posing equipment, and accessories to create beautiful, timeless portraits in the comfort of your own home. Depending on your home and available natural light, we can create a combination of softly styled newborn portraits as well as relaxed family photographs in your own surroundings, making your images even more personal and meaningful.
Just like every session we offer, our in-home sessions are completely baby-led. We allow plenty of time for feeding, cuddles, changing, and settling, ensuring the experience is calm, relaxed, and enjoyable for both you and your baby. With nearly 20 years of experience photographing newborns, we adapt every session to suit your baby's needs while always prioritising their safety and comfort.
Because transporting and setting up our professional equipment takes additional time, in-home newborn photography sessions do incur an additional travel and setup fee. We'll be happy to provide the current fee based on your location when you enquire.
Whether you visit our luxury Pymble newborn photography studio or choose the convenience of an in-home session, you'll receive the same personalised service, gentle approach, and attention to detail that we're known for. Our goal is to create beautiful newborn portraits and an enjoyable experience for your growing family, wherever you feel most comfortable.
