WHAT IS THE BEST TIME FOR MATERNITY PHOTOS, AND WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY SESSION?

The best time for maternity photography is when you're between 28 and 34 weeks pregnant. During this stage, your beautiful baby bump is usually lovely and round, while most mums are still feeling comfortable enough to move around, change poses, and enjoy their photography experience.

The rule of thumb is to have your pregnancy photo session when your belly is already obviously showing and you are feeling great and up to it.

Of course, every pregnancy is different. If you're expecting twins or have been advised that your baby may arrive early, we may recommend scheduling your maternity photography session a little sooner. The most important thing is to capture this incredible chapter before your little one makes their arrival.

We also recommend booking your maternity photography session in your second trimester, ideally between 16 and 24 weeks. This gives you the best chance of securing your preferred date, especially if you're planning a sunset outdoor session or booking one of our popular Bump to Baby Bundles, which include both your maternity and newborn photography sessions.

At our Sydney North Shore maternity photography studio, every session is individually planned to reflect your personality and style. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION?

Choosing what to wear for your maternity photography session can feel like one of the biggest decisions, but don't worry—we're here to help every step of the way.

The most important thing is to wear something that makes you feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful. Timeless styles and soft, neutral colours tend to photograph beautifully and keep the focus on you and your growing baby bump. Flowing fabrics, fitted dresses, elegant gowns, and simple, classic outfits all create stunning maternity portraits that you'll love for years to come.

If your partner or children are joining you, we recommend coordinating your outfits rather than matching exactly. Neutral tones such as cream, beige, white, soft browns, sage green, dusty blue, and muted earthy colours work wonderfully together and create a timeless, elegant look. Avoid large logos, busy patterns, or bright neon colours, as these can distract from the emotion and connection in your photographs.

At our portrait studio, your maternity session isn't just about celebrating your beautiful baby bump—it's about capturing the love, anticipation, and connection your family already shares before your newest little member arrives. Some of the most treasured images are often the quiet moments between parents, the cuddles with an excited big brother or sister, or the joyful laughter that naturally unfolds during the session.

If you have young children, there's no need to worry if they don't feel like standing still or smiling on cue. With nearly 20 years of experience photographing families, we know that toddlers and young children have minds of their own! The wonderful news is—you don't have to choose. We offer both luxury studio maternity photography and outdoor maternity sessions, and many of our clients choose to enjoy a combination of the two for a beautifully varied gallery.

Our boutique Sydney North Shore maternity photography studio is located in Pymble, on a quiet, leafy street surrounded by a lush garden. Designed to provide a relaxed and personalised experience, the studio offers a private, comfortable space where you can truly enjoy being photographed. It's the perfect setting for timeless, elegant maternity portraits, with beautiful lighting, carefully curated backgrounds, and complete control over the environment regardless of the weather.

One of our favourite features of the studio is the gorgeous garden surrounding the property. Without even leaving the studio grounds, we can step outside to create beautiful natural portraits amongst the greenery, giving you an outdoor look while still enjoying all the convenience and comfort of a private studio setting.

If you've been dreaming of breathtaking sunset photographs, we also offer outdoor maternity photography sessions at some of Sydney's most beautiful locations. Whether it's the golden light on the beach, a peaceful park, or another scenic setting, the warm glow of sunset creates a wonderfully romantic atmosphere and adds a completely different feel to your maternity portraits.

Many families choose our most popular option—a combined studio and outdoor maternity photography session. We begin in the comfort of the studio, where you can wear several different gowns and create elegant fine art portraits, before heading outdoors later in the afternoon to capture the beautiful golden light as the sun begins to set. This combination offers the best of both worlds, giving you an incredible variety of images in a single experience.

I'M AWKWARD IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA... DO YOU HELP WITH POSING DURING MATERNITY SESSIONS?

The vast majority of our clients tell us they're nervous about being photographed, but that's exactly where our experience makes all the difference. The truth is, you don't need to know how to pose, where to look, or what to do with your hands—that's our job.

We will gently guide you through every part of your session, from the very first pose to the final image. We demonstrate each pose, make small adjustments along the way, and help you move naturally so nothing ever feels forced or awkward. Our goal isn't to create stiff, overly posed photographs—it's to help you feel comfortable enough that your genuine personality shines through.

We don't expect you to be someone you're not. You don't need to look like a model or pretend to be anyone else.
